I want to dine with you.
Reminiscent of my KL trip. Eating bonds people, as I realised this of now. It’s the sitting down together, and simply enjoying food. The environment plays a part, of course. But this ritual, a social one. How I have forgotten.
I celebrated Mother’s Day at Hotel Renaissance KL. It was great, amazing how I found egg sandwiches, tomato something, vegetable dhal curry, chapatti, roasted balsamic potatoes, salad, nasi briyani… when strangely I didn’t think or fretted over whether there would be veg dishes… and ending with a lovely cappucino mousse and tiramisu, not so great cheesecake and brownie and green tea cake. OH AND I HAD MY VERY FIRST CHOCOLATE FONDUE!!! Strawberries dipped in chocolate! The other things to dip in were apricots, honeydew, bananas, pineapple, finger biscuits but I only liked the strawberries. SO FREAKING FUN!!! Not to mention yuuuummmmmmmy.
I regret not taking pictures at Hotel Renaissance and all the lovely food, as I did not of the interior of Suria KLCC. I’m not sure if the shot of the renowned twin towers outline would turn out well. Yes, I know, yet to be developed photos that are a pain in the ass because I am too lazy to go develop them, besides, the stupid roll of film has not been used up.
I love sitting down at a swanky or unique place, eating fine cuisine with spectacular scenery. Like I enjoyed myself at Nando’s right next to our hotel, for our last dinner at KL, an “Afro-Portuguese” cuisine ( bascially a chicken place) though the service was lousy because the waitress was dumb as in not being able to communicate properly and irritated the hell out of everyone.
Had fries there, which I had been craving for the whole trip, and “Mediterranean rice” which really tasted and I suspect is just fried rice- though overall the environment with hiphop and R n B music with great interior decor with a heavy influemce of Mediterranean/Jamaican-esque style kinda made the average food worthwhile. Got a complimentary plush doggy keychain.
And Madam Kwan’s at KLCC- loved the decor, with dim lighting and comfortable seats. Madam Kwan’s offer both Western and Asian fare. Had spaghetti with Napolitan sauce which is vegetarian, with a cute dark-skinned waiter with spiky hair for eye candy to boot. It wasn’t so fun seeing them enjoy curry though. Chendol and ice kachang for dessert, though I would have preferred ice cream. Pics to be developed.
Napolitan Spahgetti at Madam Kwan’s.
Had my first taste of the thick toast and yinyang at Old Town Cafe at Central Market- HongKong style that is currently all the rage over here. Yinyang is an infusion of tea and coffee- lovely mixture, for those who have equal love for the two, and a refreshing taste for coffee lovers like me.
Had my second round of Hong Kong fare at U-Village somewhere in the back streets of Sungei Wang. Had thick club toast with chocolate, peanut butter amd banana, and yinyang beverage again. Was unfortunately too full from my double breakfast at the hotel and Petaling street and mocha at San Fransciso to enjoy. Their thick toast was egg-battered fried anyway, which I didn’t liked, but the fillings were great. There were two wait staff who freaking caressed each other when they had nothing to do. Motherfuckers, don’t make me puke out my food please. So unprofessional.
We went to some coffeeshop-esque place, named Chinatown Tong Sen something, for dinner at Petaling’s three nights in a row. I had veg fried rice, veg hookien noodles, veg fried rice the next. I didn’t enjoy the food very much, pretty much Singapore fare, and the decor was stark basics, the wooden chairs, bare walls and oily tables. But they were rather nice and didn’t go “WTF?!” and did a double take as I feared when my request for veg dishes were made, but very nicely came with ample servings of vegetables.
I rather hated Petaling street though, you just try going there TWICE A DAY for every single day there. So sick of the bloody place. Stupid Ancasa Hotel where I stayed was just nearby, so dinner and breakfast was there. Had chee cheong fun the second day there, after my breakfast at the hotel. Nothing special, unlike over here, with peanut and chilli sauce.
Yeah about Petaling street, bloody whole place has alot of fakes, and the prices are ridiculous, don’t bother paying without slashing the asking price into half first. I wanted to buy a channel purse, but they don’t have it, but if you like shitloads of stupid lv and prada and shit go there. But enough about Petaling Street suff, that’s for my upcoming Shopping at KL post.
Had lame fried rice at some restaurant I forgot the name on the first day of my trip, complete with amongst the mix of patrons- hookers in thick make up, tight short skirts and long hair sitting at the back of the place, and what it could pass of Hong Kong triads, as in they looked the part, but now I think of it, too small a group to be one. Had my first mug of Carlsberg there. I’m learning to drink.
San Francisco Coffee at Lot10. Nothing special about their cakes, but their Mocha is really nice. I don’t usually drink mocha. Had their Ice blended cappucino, and it was great, though their coffees are really creamy, although that is tasty, you wonder how many calories it has as all great food does.
I discovered I really really like Western cuisine. A fantastic Vegetarian Wrap at Dome at Lot 10- spinach, tomatoes, capsicum and a variety of wholesome goodness of vegetables I didn’t normally ate all wrapped with in burito spread with olive oil. Had a carrot cake for takeaway afterwards- my first taste of a carrot cake. Love the cream toppings.
And superb Italian fare: a moist juicy freshly baked and to die for Vegetarian Pizza topped with capsicums, tomato paste, cheese and olives, and orgasm baked cheese rice without meat at Piccolo Mondo’s at Sungei Wang. The pizza was worth the rather long wait, though even lame pizza hut over here takes as long when dining in, though their crust is supposedly pre-frozen.
Mmm.
KL is great for dining, even for a vegetarian. For all my vegetarian requests, it was delivered with no questions or double takes, but done without hassle.
And I think I’d like to define my tastes now- going to non veg places and ordering a veg dish- you get all the fine dining places without being confined to the same few vegetarian places again and again, what’s more it’s hard to find vegetarian places. They all do seem to like to close early.
I have vegetarian friends who are fussy- vegetarian dishes at non-veg places are sniffed at by them. I don’t want to be like them, because if I did the whole trip would have me starving like hell. Besides, if you look carefully, most western places have labelled Vegtarian dishes. Dome impressed me and bowled me over with all their catered Veg dishes- their ingredients have a variety of vegetables for the essential nutrients a veg need.
